I know, I are thinking "Whaa PSL is so October, Amira.. why am I hearing about it in MARCH!? * insert sassy emoji girl* " but if you read my last post ( a book review), you probably know that I do not play by the rules. Frankly, it's still freezing over here in Ottawa and if anything makes me happy that it's still cold out in March, it's a good hot drink ! How's the weather wherever you are? Are you reading this post with a smirk on your face while sipping on a margarita on a beach? Or are you like me..hibernating indoors ? Either way, get cozy and read on!

Spending so much time indoors gives me time to do lots of research on random subjects. So here are some facts for you : Since launching in 2003, over 200 million Pumpkin Spice Lattes were sold. @TheRealPSL has over 85K followers on Twitter and there are more than 290K #PSL posts on Instagram alone.
Now the thing is, I love a good PSL just as much as the next girl but with 49g of sugar ( hope you didn't choke on that margarita, girl) – which is more than a whole can of Coca-Cola – and potentially harmful artificial coloring and flavors, I had to reconsider my love. And attempt a little DIY.
Warning: Do try this at home!

YOU WILL NEED: 1/4 TSP of Ground Ginger | 1/2 TSP of Ground Cinnamon | 2 Allspice Berries | 2 Whole Cloves | 2 TBS of Honey | 2 TBS of Pumpkin Puree | 1/2 CUP of Almond Milk | About a Cup of Coffee
STEP 1: Grind all the spices together starting with the cloves and allspice berries to have an even consistency.
STEP 2: Gently heat up the honey in a saucepan for a few seconds. Add in about 3/4 of the spice mix and stir. Add the pumpkin puree and mix until homogeneous. Then, add and warm up the almond milk which has a nice nutty flavor. Feel free to use regular milk if you prefer.
STEP 3: Brew your coffee and pour it into a cup. Add your pumpkin puree mix and top everything off with steamed almond milk or whipped cream if that’s how you roll.
STEP 4: Sprinkle what’s left of the spice mix on top.
Et voila… you just made your own PSL! See, we are not so basic, after all ;)
