Media Preview: Maison Simons @ Les Promenades

Last night, I had the pleasure along with other local bloggers of attending Maison Simon's media preview ahead of the grand opening today, August 13th! I know it's tempting to run out the door now but stick around and read on about what I learned about the upscale family-owned business.

It was great getting a tour of the 80,000 sq foot store ( no typo in the number of zeros, it's that big) by the CEO, Peter Simons, himself.

Even though the family-run business has expanded quite a bit in recent years with further plans to open another (even bigger) store in Ottawa's Rideau Centre, Mr.Simons insisted that his company's main objective is to remain unique. He added that mass expansion is not the main goal.

What I found most admiring aside from the amazing brand selections and interior décor, was  the company's focus on keeping operations domestic & the family's committment to the community; they are continuously fundraising local projects and supporting national artists.

It's hard to miss Julie Trembley's two piece sculpture made of aluminum foil anxhoring the interior of the department store. Trembley talked very passionately about her work of art and its inspiration! She truly offers a great new perspective on nature.

Oh & if you are a foodie like moi, you will definitely like what's stuffed in the oven for you over at Ève, a French concept style café inside the store. And how cute is it that Simons named the café after his late grandmother?

If there's one article of clothing to sum up how I feel about the new Maison Simons , it is this adorable hand lettered sweater in the Twik department. It reads " Je t'aime comme le beurre de peanut aime la confiture"! My heart just melted..

Make sure to check out the new store this weekend! There will be tons of events including a fun Twik photo booth, live graffiti, personalized calligraphy place cards,  DJ Fafa Khan and much more!

Welcome to Gatineau, Simons! My closet could not be more thrilled!!
