24th Annual Governor's General Performing Arts Gala!

This past Saturday, I had the honour of attending the 24th Annual Governor General's Performing Arts Awards with my sister, Nina.
She was wearing a beautiful royal blue gown from BCBG. My pink mermaid like dress is from Melanie Lyne.

It was my first time attending the event which is held annually at the National Arts Centre to celebrate and recognize the performing arts scene in Canada. There's so much talent ocean to ocean to ocean across this inspiring nation and I couldn't be more  proud of all that Canada has gifted the world in beauty and art.

Each of the artists was honoured through a variety of  dance theatrical and musical tributes including short films featuring them  and loving speeches from their family and colleagues.

As a HUGE Michael Bublé fan, I was a little upset before the event when I learned that he wouldn't make an appearance and accept his award due to a vocal cord surgery. Luckily, he will be there in 2017 for the 25th annual gala- what a great year 2017 will be for Ottawa!

Have you seen how the NAC will look like in 2017? We were given a small taste of what to expect before the show started.
After the awards, it was time to dance the night away! If you know me well, you know I can never say no to macarons and there were some great ones at the reception! The band, Elektric, also did not disappoint with their music.
This was my first GGPAA but certainly not the last- I can't wait to attend again next year! Will you be attending? Which Canadian artist do you think is deserving of a GGPAA ? Let me know in the comments!

XO,

Amira
